Jim's first Formula One Drivers' World Championship came driving the Lotus 25 in 1963, winning seven out of the ten races and Lotus its first Constructors' World Championship.

Insofar as Jim Clark history, cars and dates go 1963 was a plentiful year. Famously photographed at his Edington Mains farmhouse early in 1963 with no leaves on the trees, Jim sits on his first Lotus Elan. Given to Jim by Lotus, 997 NUR was the first production Elan i.e. 1963 Series 1, Unit No. 001. It is written that the car was known to Jim as the "National Union of Railways". The car was then bought by Ian Scott-Watson. Jim's most famous Lotus Cortina 550 VAR was registered 167 RUR on May 8th 1963. Last but not least, as stated at the top of this page, Jim's first World Championship was won with the Lotus 25 in 1963, an engine seizure robbing him of the title in 1962.
Jim went on to have a second and third Elan. CRO 291B a 1964 Series 1 Unit No. 3387 in Cirrus white with a Harold Radford Conversion. The car was stolen, coterie-images have a photograph of this car from 1965. Next came the Bahama yellow NLD 550E, 1967 Series 3 Special Equipment Unit No. 36/6778 LHD. The car now belongs to Peter Windsor. In August 2022 Peter climbed in his car at Ollon-Villars in Switzerland where 60 years earlier Jim drove a Filipinetti Lotus 21 and he came 3rd in class. At sometime Jim also drove a Lotus Elan 513 WAR which was apparently stolen from Silverstone, date of clipping below unknown. Registrations NUR, WAR, CRO, RUR, VAR and BJH all appear to belong to pre 1974 Hertfordshire, Group Lotus moved from Hornsey, London to Cheshunt, Hertfordshire in 1959.
Ian Scott-Watson below always pleased to be reunited with his old ex Jim Clark Lotus Elan 997 NUR on the second day of the 50th Anniversary Event outside the Jim Clark Room. The car was to be was to be parked outside the Loretto Chapel before, during and after the Chapel Service on April 22nd along with Jim's yellow Lotus Elan S3 SE, both of which are shown below on April 7/8 at Duns and Chirnside during the 50th anniversary event.

Inspired by this car a Jim Clark Special Edition of the Evora GT410 Sport has been hand built at Lotus’ Hethel site – the home of the company for the last 50 years. Echoing the original car’s colour scheme, with red paintwork, a silver roof and silver wheels, plus tartan upholstery, it commemorates the legacy of one of motorsport’s most enduring figures. The car also carries Clark’s signature on each rear buttress. The Jim Clark Trust have offered this incredible sports car as an amazing competition prize announced at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2018 to mark the 50th anniversary of 1968.

SOLD by Legends, 166 RUR was the first "Works" Lotus Cortina.
The car first competed in the 1963 Oulton Park Gold Cup event driven by Trevor Taylor and the following month by Jim Clark at Snetterton. In 1964 the car was shipped to the USA and was raced throughout the country under the English Ford Line and driven by the likes of Dan Gurney and Sir John Whitmore. Here it was sold with a fresh Connaught Competition engine ready to compete or simply use on the road, complete with FIA HTP papers as well as a nice parts pack that converts the car from road to race. UK History LINK and American history LINK with embedded Ford video "The Cortina at Sebring" showing Dan Gurney in 166 RUR and Jim driving 168 RUR in the March 20/21st 1964 Sebring races.

What these results don't allude to was the fierce accident sustained by Eric Liddell which resulted in damage to the Formula 1 Emeryson-Climax (#1004) and left him with 2nd and 3rd degree burns. Eric decided from then on to never race a single seater again.
